Frequently Asked Questions

Question: If I send in my manuscript or Word document, will you at least review it and give me some feedback?

Answer: We’re sorry, but we are not accepting unsolicited material at this time. If you have an agent, you may submit your material through their office. Please read our manuscript submission policies for further information.

Question: How many titles do you publish per year?

Answer: It varies. CallahanCroft is an independent publishing house. Choosing a manuscript for publication is a very expensive and time-consuming undertaking.

Question: Are you willing to consider previously unpublished writers?

Answer: Absolutely. We work with established authors but are receptive to discovering new talents. However, at this time, you must submit your material only through a literary agent.

Question: What can you offer your authors that bigger presses cannot?

Answer: We can offer our authors more freedom. To some degree, we allow our authors to explore a more non-formula approach to genre writing. We also offer our authors more attention. We value our relationships with each of them.

Question: Can I purchase books from you?

Answer: Generally, no. Under most circumstances, you may either purchase or pre-order books through the national retail chains such as Border Books, www.borderstores.com or Barnes and Noble, www.barnesandnoble.com. In some rare instances you may be able to purchase directly from us but please consult your bookstore first to confirm the availability of a title you are interested in.

Question: When do you release titles?

Answer: In publishing, there are three main selling seasons per year. We typically have Fall, Winter and Spring releases. Occassionaly, our release schedule is limited to twice a year.

Question: Do you ever plan on publishing romance or horror?

Answer: It is unlikely we will ever publish either genre as our interests do not lie within them.
